You aren't the only one to have wondered...
What makes treatments with Sacral Edge unique?
At Sacral Edge, all treatments are valued at a flat rate of 120$ for 60 minutes, and 157$ for 90 minutes, there will never be any additional cost for specialized treatments (like fascial stretch, deep tissue, or scar therapy) or tools (like cupping, hot stone, or kinesio taping). This is because we believe every body is unique and therefore every treatment will be unique, what your body needs may also change week to week. The best treatment approach often optimizes a combination of specialized massage and myofascial techniques and tools. (See a list of some of the approaches we use in combination under "Treatments")
Isn't massage just a spa treatment?
Massage can be much more than a relaxing spa treatment. Registered Massage Therapists are trained to assess and treat a variety of pain patterns and symptoms. A therapeutic massage is much more specific in approach, aiming to treat the muscles directly contributing to your postural tension or pain, as well as addressing compensating structures to ensure more lasting results.
I don't have any injuries or chronic pain, can I still benefit from massage?
Absolutely! Just like we visit our dentist regularly to maintain dental health, getting a regular massage or other musculoskeletal treatments is just another way to proactively support our overall health! Regular massage will keep your muscles feeling loose and your joints nice and mobile helping you move and perform your best!
Does massage have to be painful to be effective?
Short answer? No! In fact, going too deep to the point of pain just puts the body into fight or flight, which may just exacerbate your symptoms. That said, deep tissue and myofascial techniques can be uncomfortable occasionally. The key is that we work within your individual pain tolerance, you should be able to breath comfortably and relax into the technique. If your muscles are reflexively tensing up, than we will back off the pressure. It is important to always communicate with your therapist.
Do I have to take off my clothing?
It isn't necessary to undress to be treated effectively. Clients will always be directed to de-robe to their personal comfort level, that can be anything from going nude on the table, leaving undergarments on, wearing sport clothing, or religious garments. Rest assured, you can expect a quality treatment regardless, and whatever you choose, you will be draped the entire session and only the specific area your RMT is treating will be uncovered.
It is my first massage with Sacral Edge, do I need to arrive early?
It is recommended to arrive 5 minutes early to every appointment just so you don't feel rushed but it isn't required. There is no paperwork to fill out in person as you will receive your intake forms by email once you've booked your session. It IS required that you have this form filled out before your session or it may cut into your scheduled massage time.
What should I do to prepare for my massage?
To ensure your treatment is effective and comfortable, there are a couple things we recommend:
1. Bring sport clothes for fascial stretch therapy sessions (shorts and a tank top is best so we can access more skin).
2. Hydrate prior to your session, this ensures your tissues are also hydrated which will decrease discomfort and potential post-session soreness.
Does Sacral Edge offer direct billing?
Yes, we do offer direct billing to all major insurers. It is important that you are aware of what your plan offers, and contact your company if you are unsure of your policy. Occasionally insurance portals will be unavailable for various reasons, if we are unable to direct bill that day, it is our policy to bill in full and provide an invoice for you to submit. Please be aware, Manual Osteopathy cannot be direct billed, but it is possible with most companies to submit yourself. Reach out if you have any questions.
What happens if I need to miss my appointment?
Sacral Edge does maintain a 24 hour cancellation policy. The time you book is reserved for you, and short-notice cancellations make it challenging to get other clients who may be waiting for an appointment to get in. In cases of short-notice cancellations, a 50% charge will be applied to your account. **We are of course empathetic to extenuating circumstances, so this policy may be addressed case by case, please contact us directly if you are unable to make your appointment.
